Villeray, Saint-Michel and Parc-Extension are walk-up territory: two- and three-storey flats over a shared front hall, often holding more people than the floor plan suggests. Multi-generational households are normal here, which means a kitchen used three times a day, a queue for the bathroom from six in the morning, and bedrooms doubling as study space.
